Caring for Non-spayed pets

It is important to understand that for dogs and cats the intent to mate is natural, but mating and the resulting pregnancies can be detrimental to your pet's health. It is not essential to their survival and overall well-being and getting them spayed benefits them greatly in the long run. Also, considering the number of health and genetic abnormalities which arise with domesticated animals it is unethical to breed them. However if you do find yourself unable to immediately spay your cat or dog, due to certain health conditions or because they are through their first heat cycle, here is some advice on how to handle it appropriately.
